Finally got my iPhone 3G. Apple servers down for registering.
Friday, July 11th, 2008Got a call from the o2 shop 30 minutes ago telling me my iPhone 3G 16GB is ready to collect! Straight in the car and within minutes it’s in my sweaty palm (we’ll not that sweaty). Now it seems that the Apple servers can’t cope with the registration of 100 000’s of iPhones. I now have no phone until it registers. Is there no end to this debacle!
There’s going to be some serious questions asked after this day!

Sphere ito2 drop the ball AGAIN!
Friday, July 11th, 2008Well i was there at 6am (well 6:15am) outside o2, Forster Square Bradford. 11 People ahead of me, some of which had been there since midnight, hoping to get their hands on the iPhone 3G. I saw 1 person walk out with it before me. Seems the same story as monday, system down, can’t process your order. My 16GB iPhone 3G (1 of 10 they had) is waiting in store with my name on it!
Come on o2! This is an absolute mess!

Sphere itPlans to queue friday morning for the iPhone 3G
Thursday, July 10th, 2008Well monday came and went without incident. I mean there was o2 unable to plan for the anticipated volume of paying customers. Oh yes and the incredible amounts of frustration as the minutes ticked by and i was unable to order the next generation Apple iPhone i had so set my heart on. So there’s nothing to it! 6am Friday morning, o2, Forster Square, Bradford.
As expected we have reports of probable shortages for the iPhone in both o2 and Carphone Warehouse. I for one aren’t risking weeks worth of waiting, i’ve waited long enough. The conspiracist in me sees Apple holding back stock of the iPhone to generate lots of free hype, but i don’t care.
The first generation iPhone literally changed my life in just as much a way as the release of os X or the announcement of the 5GB iPod back in the day. I’ve been living for 3 weeks with the most basic phone Nokia produce while my iPhone is in for repair. It’s horrible! No more checking the weather while i eat my breakfast. Checking my email while i’m on site or at lunch. No more sneaky internet browsing on something which just pops into my head. Yeah, sure, all these things can be done on my old N80 but it’s such a faf and i’ve never had the motivation to waste 5 minutes trying to get it to work. Just get the lappie out. It’s so very much different with the iphone. Electricity chooses the path of least resistance we all learn at school. So it is with technology, we want it easy, if i can check the weather in seconds when i put the kettle on why would i mess around getting my laptop out. I’m telling myself the iPhone 3G will do the same to me.
The app store will bring a plethora or innovative applications which will change everything. Who knows, but without it in my hands i’ll not be able to see how much i ignore the constant reminder from my location aware todo list that i really have stuff to do. I imagine though that super monkey ball and not the weather will occupy my time at the breakfast table.

Sphere ito2 are out of stock!
Monday, July 7th, 2008Beggars, I knew it another company who can’t get it together to test an application before they put it live. Who makes an ajax application which you have to start from scratch if you get an error! They are now out of stock online, or so the site says. Bunch of muppets.
Guess i’m waiting for weeks now until they get their act together. Why did you choose o2 Apple?
I guess you have to wonder why 1.) Apple choose o2 and 2.) Why people are going to other providers. This happened at both the carphone warehouse and o2 when the original iphone went on sale in the uk. You’d just think that someone would have learnt. How did the site manage to be down all morning but still manage to process orders?
Tell you what, we’ll send a text message at 8am to everyone who has an iphone telling them we’ll give you a free upgrade! I wonder what will happen? Anyway, rant over! I wonder how much a vodafone contract is?

Sphere itiPod Touch gets Gmail Support
Thursday, October 25th, 2007It appears that google has added the iPod Touch to it’s list of devices which use it’s mobile gmail service. Recently i’ve been using gmail though Safari on the Touch and only getting the standard gmail interface. This morning i get the gmail mobile interface which is much better for a screen the size of the Touch’s (Can anyone confirm this is the same for the iPhone?)
Admittedly it would be awesome if Google turned this into a full iPod Touch/iPhone application but this is going a good way towards that.
